The Benefits of Chorus
In addition to the obvious benefit of learning to sing, Chorus helps kids develop many other skills and attributes as well:
Chorus has several health benefits as well. Students exercise their diaphragm and expand their lung capacity. Many students find singing to provide stress relief as natural endorphins are released into the body in response to music and physical activity.
- Confidence - students have a chance for speaking, acting, dancing, and solo parts and develop an appreciation for the positive effects of hard work as they learn to excel as an individual in front of an audience
- Teamwork - students learn to blend voice and movement with the whole group
- Focus - students develop focus as a product of listening to instruction and listening for their cues
- Self-Discipline - students are responsible for memorizing songs and stage instructions, for developing costumes, for attending rehearsal on a regular basis, and for practicing at home
- Cultural Enrichment - students are exposed to music from various holidays, time periods, and styles, expanding their appreciation for different customs, religions, and cultures
- Harmony - students learn to hear and sing the multiple notes within the music that make a richer sound
